Welcome to the Chikondi Foundation website!

In Chichewa (the main language in Malawi, besides English) ‘Chikondi’ means Love. Which is what we experienced in ‘the warm heart of Africa’.

In November 2015, we, Janet and Marieke, visited Chikwawa in Malawi with a project by the Edukans foundation. Together with 25 teachers we visited seven schools in the region. The goal was to share knowledge with the teachers there. It was an inspiring and impressive journey.

Of course, we didn’t go there empty-handed. In the Netherlands we raised almost €10,000 through varying fundraising activities. This amount was spread over different educational projects, i.a. in Malawi, by the organisation.

In Malawi, we got a strong feeling that we wanted to give more than just knowledge. Sitting in a classroom, on a floor full of holes, with more than 150 children looking at us wide-eyed, waiting for a pencil with which they could write some letters in their broken little notebooks… We knew we were not finished here. Once at home, the Chikondi Foundation came into being.

The Foundation focuses on renovating and furnishing classrooms and acquiring educational materials. All of the financial input is used directly for the purpose of the Foundation.
