Emergency situation in Malawi…

So unfair…

Major draughts followed by extreme rainfalls, resulting in large floodings. People have gone missing and are evacuating. Roads are impassable and people are displaced. The danger of infections looms. The consequences are not yet imaginable. Help is needed very urgently. Money for blankets, tents, clothing and food… The people are dealing with power failure, the president has declared Malawi a disaster area and is requesting help.

The Chikondi foundations wishes to help. Frank and Francis, our local contacts, are finding out where our aid is most needed. If you would like to help, you can do that by donating on the Chikondi Foundation account NL80 RABO 0304470848, mentioning ‘Overstroming Chikwawa maart 2019’

The Protestant Community Terneuzen supports Chikondi…

The Protestant Community in Terneuzen is actively involved with the work of the Chikondi Foundation. The children’s service has been saving for furniture for some time. In this way, they have collected enough for 6 seats (seating 18 children). The Diaconie and the ZWO-committee have decided to join them. We have already received multiple generous gifts. E.g. from collections during service, proceeds from a movie night and the proceeds of the sale of Fair Trade products. We also had the opportunity to share our story multiple times in the church and we hope we can continue to do this.

We are very grateful for the involvement of many church members.

Walking for Water

4 Million people do not have access to clean drinking water. This can result in bad hygiene and illness. Children have to walk far to fetch clean drinking water and this often results in them not attending school.

For this reason, on our projects the placement of water wells and hand pumps in some of the villages of the Chikwawa district, where the situation is the most urgent.

In collaboration with Rotary Huizen Gooimeer and Meta Meta we hope to realize these projects for some villages very soon. In ‘t Gooi 4 schools will join ‘Walking for Water’ and walk for water in Malawi. In this way we hope to be able to realize some waterpumps.

The children will walk the 20th of March (in Huizen and Blaricum) and the 22nd of March (in Terneuzen) for 6 km with 6 liters of water on their backs. For this they will receive the ‘Walking for Water’ backpacks.

At full force!

To further realize our projects, we will need more income. Fortunately, the ‘de Hoop’ market and the information evening at the women’s federation have already provided a few hundred euros, but this is not enough. In addition, we have received donations from people and companies. Fantastic! Of course, we hope to receive those more often.

As you can understand, we are also in need of more larger fundraising projects. Some projects are in effect at this moment.

For example, this Wednesday, the 21st of December, we are present at the cozy Christmas fair of ‘CBS de Oude Vaart’.  You are also very welcome, there is a lot to see, taste and experience! We hope to raise a nice amount.

Furthermore, at primary school ‘de Parel’ they are busy selling Christmas wreaths and at primary school ‘de Warande’ in Axel they are saving for the Chikondi Foundation. We will provide some guest lectures there in January. We think it’s really great that these schools were enthused to raise funds for Chikondi Foundation! Thank you!

Also, collecting tins were placed at ‘de Plieger’, ‘Gevier/Rensa’ and hairdresser ‘Sluiskil’.

In spring, the proceedings of the clothing fair at ‘Zeldenrust-Steelantcollege’ from Shaki Foundation will benefit Chikondi Foundation. This will also be of great help in realizing the projects. Fantastic!

All of them great developments, for which we are very grateful!

Last but not least, we are proud to introduce you to 2 enthusiastic teachers that are also committed to education in Malawi with all their hearts. They will raise funds at their schools and bring these proceedings to realize the water pumps in Julius and Sadulo. A great initiative! We are very grateful.

We are Charlotte Langenhoff and Linda Lambrechts, besides friends, we are teachers from two different schools.

Towards the end of April, we will go to Malawi together with Marieke de Pooter. October 2015, Marieke and Linda have already traveled together to Malawi. The poverty and harsh living conditions that we experienced there, do not leave our minds. For this reason we have decided to travel to Malawi again, during the spring break of this school year.

Because clean drinking water is one of the basic human needs, we want to have two water pumps placed in a village in Chikwawa. The following period we want to commit ourselves to raise enough funds!

Let’s make the world a little more beautiful together!

Do you also have a nice fundraising project in mind? Let us know! All projects, large and small, are very welcome! Of course, we will help where we can.

We hope to be able to tell you more about raised funds of these great initiatives, and the projects that we want to realize with them, soon!

Tionana!

Renovation Namalindi school is finished!

Revonation Namalindi school is finished!

Particularly thanks to the Christmas fair at the Oude Vaart, we were able to complete the renovation of the Namalindi school!

During the spring break, when Marieke will travel to Malawi again, we hope to provide 2 of the classrooms with furniture. Among others, ‘de Warande’, a primary school in Axel, is helping out with collecting the money necessary for this project. Friday the 20th of January, Marieke has enthusiastically presented our cause in all of the ‘de Warande’ classrooms. After the presentations, it was announced that the school has already collected €414 for Chikondi and they are not finished yet! We are curious for and looking forward to the final results.

Our enthusiasm is also growing because of all of the other fundraising projects, a growing amount of organizations is starting to believe in our cause and shows their support for the Chikondi Foundation. Fantastic!

For example, Saturday the 8th of March, Shaki Foundation will have another clothing fair at Zeldenrust-Steelantcollege. We will be present there and a part of the funds raised will go to Chikondi Foundation. We are very grateful for this.

Towards the end of April, Marieke will not travel alone to Malawi, also Linda and Charlotte, two teachers from the North of the Netherlands will travel with her. They have already raised a lot of money, that they want to use to place two water pumps. One of them will be placed near the village of Sadulo and Julius, Marieke has visited this place during her last trip to Malawi. She attended a town meeting there and it became clear that this water pump is also necessary for enabling children to go to school. As it is now, the children have to walk very far to get clean water, because of this they do not go to school. Placing a water pump closer to the village would solve this problem. The preparations in Malawi are in progress, contacts were established and we have received offers for the placing of the pumps. We hope that they can be placed during our stay in Malawi.

Furthermore, Marieke will expend her contacts in Malawi, to receive even more insight in the local education needs in district Chikwawa. Also, she will elaborate our plans for building a preschool. We feel that we can accomplish more and more for education in Malawi. Especially with your help!

On the website you can find our annual financial statement. We want to provide transparency regarding our income and expenses. You can be sure that all of the money we receive is directly invested in a way that will have the biggest positive impact. In this way we work together, improving education in Malawi!

Below are the pictures of the Namalindi school, we are happy and proud of the result. The children are sheltered and have a floor without holes!
