So unfair…
Major draughts followed by extreme rainfalls, resulting in large floodings. People have gone missing and are evacuating. Roads are impassable and people are displaced. The danger of infections looms. The consequences are not yet imaginable. Help is needed very urgently. Money for blankets, tents, clothing and food… The people are dealing with power failure, the president has declared Malawi a disaster area and is requesting help.
The Chikondi foundations wishes to help. Frank and Francis, our local contacts, are finding out where our aid is most needed. If you would like to help, you can do that by donating on the Chikondi Foundation account NL80 RABO 0304470848, mentioning ‘Overstroming Chikwawa maart 2019’
The Protestant Community Terneuzen supports Chikondi…
The Protestant Community in Terneuzen is actively involved with the work of the Chikondi Foundation. The children’s service has been saving for furniture for some time. In this way, they have collected enough for 6 seats (seating 18 children). The Diaconie and the ZWO-committee have decided to join them. We have already received multiple generous gifts. E.g. from collections during service, proceeds from a movie night and the proceeds of the sale of Fair Trade products. We also had the opportunity to share our story multiple times in the church and we hope we can continue to do this.
We are very grateful for the involvement of many church members.
Walking for Water
4 Million people do not have access to clean drinking water. This can result in bad hygiene and illness. Children have to walk far to fetch clean drinking water and this often results in them not attending school.
For this reason, on our projects the placement of water wells and hand pumps in some of the villages of the Chikwawa district, where the situation is the most urgent.
In collaboration with Rotary Huizen Gooimeer and Meta Meta we hope to realize these projects for some villages very soon. In ‘t Gooi 4 schools will join ‘Walking for Water’ and walk for water in Malawi. In this way we hope to be able to realize some waterpumps.
The children will walk the 20th of March (in Huizen and Blaricum) and the 22nd of March (in Terneuzen) for 6 km with 6 liters of water on their backs. For this they will receive the ‘Walking for Water’ backpacks.
