Future projects:
The construction of the Chilongoma primary school in Kapasule, Chikwawa. A lot of students are now taught outside due to the lack of classrooms. There is no standard 8 and this means there are children who do not finish primary school and do not receive education.
We also want to meet the needs of the girls of Ngabu secondary school, and aid them in the payment of school fees to prevent early abandonment of education and increase their chances of a better future.
Waterwells and handpumps in the following villages: MVula, Chikambi, Mtombosora, Kabudula and Potadzingwe in the Chikwawa district. In the Nsanje district: Ndenguma 1, Chimpiningu, Felo, Ndenguma 2 and Therere. Some of the villagers will receive training for maintenance of the water pumps. A payment system will be set up so that the villagers can contribute to the maintenance.
There is a large lack of clean drinking water in this area. There are major draughts and people are getting ill. Children are required to fetch water over long distances, multiple times a day and are thus not able to receive education.
Furnishing classrooms Mthumba school, Chikwawa (may 2016)
The past may holiday, Marieke traveled to Malawi for our first project.
The first project became reality! A local woodworker provided school furniture for the students of standard 8 of the Mthumba primary school, in a very short time. Two days later, the students make their central exams not on the ground but at their tables.

The community will contribute theirselves by providing stones and gravel.
Once the renovation is completed, our wish is to furnish the classrooms as well. Also this project requires money. The costs for furnishing two classrooms is € 3400.-.

Water pump and pre-school for two villages: Julius and Sadulo (Chisanje)
During the visit in may 2016, we met an organisation that is commited to the well-being of disabled people and orphans in the region. The organisation, led by the pastor Bitten Masamba, is called Focus For Action Centre (FRACE). She took me to a council meeting in Chisanje. Here they told me what are the difficulties for the population. Women have to walk kilometres to get water at the nearest water pump. Also children have to help in this regard because a lot of elderly are weakened. Because of extreme draught, there is barely enough food. Children have to walk half an hour to go to school, but a lot of children don’t even go.
At this moment, we are looking at what we can do to place a water pump. Further information will follow quickly. Furthermore, a preschool in these villages would be very welcome, where the children can learn while playing.
